The
Alexander Technique has been taught for over one hundred years. In 1958,
the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) was founded in
the UK in order to ensure high standards of teacher training and practice,
and to promote public awareness of the Technique.
Teaching
members of STAT are certified (MSTAT) to teach the Technique
after successfully completing a three year, full-time training course approved
by the Society, hold professional indemnity insurance and are bound
by both the Society’s Consitution and a published Code of Practice.
There are currently over 2500 teaching members of STAT and its
affiliated Societies world-wide. Graduates of STAT training courses are
assessed by a system of external moderation. The socety also runs a post
graduate programme of Continuing Professional Development to ensure that
teachers sills are current.
